Lake Bled Slovenia 2007-06-23 00:00:00.000 2007-06-30 00:00:00.000
One of the best-kept secrets in golf, before the Balkan Civil War, was the golf course at Bled in Slovenia. On the borders between Austria and Italy, set on the hills overlooking the lake, and with a spectacular mountain backdrop this course is a real gem. Bled is a charming little spa town where restaurants with an Italian flavour and bars abound. There is even a casino. Live music plays on the terraces and you can dance in the moonlight by the lake. Best of all the Slovenian Tollar goes a long way.
With Adria Airways we can fly from Manchester or Gatwick or with Easyjet from Stansted and Whiz from Luton direct to Llubljana in only 2 hours. From there it is just 35 kms along the motorway to Bled. Book the Easyjet and Whiz flights as soon as it comes on line and it can be as cheap as £50.
Although the course is high in the hills it is cleverly designed and easy to walk. From almost every tee the views are simply breathtaking. The surrounding Julian Alps are often snow capped right up until mid June. The 27-hole course is just 5 mins from the hotel and the town walking distance from the hotel. No cars are necessary or even desirable. Undoubtedly the prettiest new venue we have featured since Corsica.
